Agnes R. Groshek
Agnes R. Groshek, 63, of Highway 161 in the town of Amherst, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Agnes will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church. The Rev. James Trempe will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Parish Cemetery. Friends and family will gather today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point, and again from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. A general rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
Shuda Family Funeral Service of Stevens Point and Plover are assisting the family.
A memorial, in lieu of flowers, will be established in her name.
Agnes was born April 28, 1946, in Stevens Point, the daughter of August and Doris (Gierszewski) Bemke. She attended local schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1964. She married Paul Groshek, July 31, 1965, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
Agnes loved spending time with her family, and held together many family traditions through the years while she was a homemaker as she and Paul raised their four children. In 2001, she began working part-time at Fleet Farm, where she has been employed since.
She also enjoyed gardening, feeding her wild birds, reading and animals, especially her cats and ferrets.
Agnes is survived by her husband, Paul; their four children, Kevin (Tina) Groshek, Wisconsin Rapids, Carla (Eric) Gagas, Custer, Craig (Anna) Groshek, Plover and Cory Groshek, Plover; two grandchildren, Kayla and Dustin Groshek; four sisters, Catherine Wanta, Stevens Point, Eleanor Spitzenberger, Eau Claire, Frances (Richard) Brown, Plover and Theresa (Arvid) Cummings, Salton City, Calif.; four brothers, August Bemke, Anthony (Rita) Bemke, Walter (Judy) Bemke, all of Stevens Point and Edward (Diane) Bemke, Greenfield; and one half-sister, Ann Pieczynski, Michigan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two half-sisters, Sue Grubba and Josephine Bemke; and two infant siblings, Mary and John.
