All good memories of growing up on Jones Avenue in Racine, WI. Joan was a few years older than me. Kathy and I were the
same age. In those days kids played together as a group of all ages. I remember when Joan asked me if I wanted to ride her
bike. I didn't know how so she said she would hold the fender and walk/run alongside of me so I wouldn't fall. All was going
so well and I turned to thank her, and there she was, standing way, way back (in the alley), waving and smiling at me. She
taught me how to ride a bike! I also remember Kathy and Joan taking me with them to the YWCA with them. I jumped into
the deeper end of the pool. I could swim, but I just couldn't get going in the deep water. I wasn't afraid or struggling, but I
couldn't get going. I felt a push on my butt that got me going. When I looked back, there was Joan, smiling and waving.
She always seemed to be there when you needed her. Good memories. I am sorry for your loss. I know Kathy remembers
me, and maybe Sue and Jane do too. I send you (sisters) and her children my deepest sympathy. Friends always, Jeanne (Rapp) Howe

Jeanne, thanks for all the great memories and your kind thoughts. I never knew the Jones Ave house but heard lots of stories, most of them involving our Uncle Roe. I'll tell Sue and Jane you wrote. Sadly, Kathy has advanced Alzheimer's and I haven't seen her in many years but Jane has. Tentative plans are for a Sept. 6 memorial service for my mom Joan in Racine. -Rick Bie

With deepest sympathy, love and prayers from our family. Joan was a joy to have as a sister-in-law and much loved. We have so many happy memories - Joan was always helpful and generous to all of us. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Amy Larsen

My condolences are with all during this sad time. I will miss Joan tremendously. Joan was always looking to do anything she could to stay active at Brookdale. She loved to go on shopping trips, baking, movies, going out to eat, and whatever else was offered. She could always put a smile on anyone's face and definatey brightened up any room she was in. I am left with so many memories of Joan. She will be missed. Cheryl Jakusz (Resident Programs Director at Brookdale)

Thanks for your kind words, Cheryl. I really appreciate all you did for my mom. You were as much a great friend to her as a great caregiver. She came to Stevens Point not knowing anyone and left with a huge circle of friends at Brookdale. Thank you for keeping her involved and happy these last few years. -Rick Bie
