Obituary

Bernice C. Rudnick passed away peacefully at her home in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, on December 3, 2020. Bernice, a loving mother and grandmother, was 93 years old.

Bernice was a life long resident of Milwaukee, WI. She moved to an assistive living facility in the Steven Point area towards the end of her years to be near one of her son’s and his family.

The daughter of Hillary and Marie (Schreibeis) Heck, Bernice was born on February 21, 1927. She was baptized in Sacred Heart Church, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a baby, Bernice became ill and later it was discovered that she was deaf. Bernice attended St. John’s school for the deaf in Milwaukee. Bernice then went to work for the Robert Johnson Candy Factory. She met Martin Rudnick in 1950 and they were married April 28, 1951. Together Martin and Bernice lived on East Oklahoma Ave. in the Bayview area of Milwaukee.

The couple had three children. Bernice became a stay-at-home mother, only occasionally taking on part time work outside of her home. Bernice and Martin lived together on East Oklahoma Ave. until his death in 2001. Bernice continued on at that residence eventually moving into an apartment in the Milwaukee area, until her final move up to Stevens Point at age 90.

Bernice and Martin were both very active members of the deaf community in Milwaukee. They enjoyed many close friends. They were very close to their families and very loved. Bernice enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafting and playing cards. Her happy and sweet disposition is well remembered by friends, family and everyone who met her.

Bernice is survived by Her sons: Donald (Cheryl) Rudnick of Milwaukee and Paul (Jennifer) Rudnick of Stevens Point, WI. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Renee (Trevor) Schessler of Stevens Point; Paige Rudnick and daughter Lily Rehak of Milwaukee; Katherine Rudnick of Stevens Point: Nathaniel Rudnick of Stevens Point and Matthias Rudnick of Stevens Point. Bernice is also survived by four siblings: Rosemary Lane of Greenfield, WI; Corinne Conatty of Franklin, WI; Kathy Grimm of Franklin, WI; and Robert (Janice) Heck of Tucson, AZ. She is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Martin and daughter Mary.

The celebration of Bernice‘s life will be held on December 19, 2020 at Molthen-Bell & Son Funeral Home, 700 Milwaukee Ave, South Milwaukee, WI 53172. Open visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. A private service will follow, along with a private burial in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 3800 E. College Ave., Cudahy, WI 53110.
