On January 31, James "Jim" Raymond Miskowski, 91, of Stevens Point passed away surrounded by family after a long decline that challenged his physical capacity but never diminished his memory, sense of humor, or his interest in family, sports, or politics.

Born April 9, 1929 as Eugene Raymond Miskowski, his father changed his name from Eugene to James. He was known to friends as Jim—and sometimes, to his dearest friends, as Eugene. He was preceded in death by his parents Roman and Mamie (nee LeSavage), his brother Donald (Dolly), and sister Elaine (August) Neises.

A 1947 graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School, he served in the Army as an M.P. stationed in Japan during the Korean War. After returning from service, he started at The Copps Corporation in 1954 and retired after 37 years. On August 13, 1955 he married the love of his life, Irene Golla.

As a youth, Jim played basketball and baseball. He shared a lifelong interest for baseball with his siblings, which included catching fast pitch softballs from his brother Donny. As an adult, Jim was active in bowling and volleyball, he coached Little League baseball and youth basketball. He and Irene were longtime members of St. Stephen’s Parish and enjoyed volunteering for Special Olympics. He attended the Ice Bowl and came home to tell us that he had called the sneak; and he drank Pepsi because Coke stole the Braves.

His life with Irene revolved around family, friends, card games, picnics at Sunset Lake and Collins Lake, going Up North, winters in Florida, local sports, and frequent gatherings at Paul’s Bar and other watering holes where he perfected his cribbage game.

He is survived by his wife Irene, children Nancy (Ron) Smith, Sharon (Tom) Koss, Jon (Mary Sarnowski) Miskowski, Chris (Tom) Orella; grandchildren Meghann (Jason) Phillips, Aaron (Sara) Smith, Kalsea Koss, Karrah Koss, Ben (Liz) Miskowski, Kyle Smith, Sam Miskowski, Grace Orella, Jack Orella and four great-grandchildren.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held for the immediate family at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Services will be live streamed on Friday, February 5 at 11 a.m. through St. Stephen's YouTube page titled: "Point Catholic Faith".

The family would like to thank St. Michael’s Hospital and North Haven Assisted Living for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.

Jon and family, praying for comfort to you all at the loss of your father. Never met him, but based on his reason for loving Pepsi, I think I would have enjoyed knowing him.
